In September 2022, The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) voted to add a special code to track gun sales made with a credit card. This practice is not new because credit card purchases are tracked and there are codes for various groups of retailers including movie theatres, hardware stores, hair salons, etc. However, the reason behind this vote is supposed to help curb gun violence. The question is: Will it?
Pro-Second Amendment Groups Are Not Happy
Virtually every Second Amendment advocacy group is taking a strong stance against this vote. There are a couple of valid arguments. The primary argument is that this measure will not reduce gun violence but will create another database to track gun ownership. Multiple credit card companies including Visa and Mastercard have previously stated that they do not support the effort however they have since changed their tunes. Amalgamated Bank recently released a statement showing their support for this ISO vote. These large banks began this new coding process late last year. By now, each bank/credit card issuer should have these codes in place.
Now Is The Time Fight Back
The current administration is dead set on taking away or severely limiting our Second Amendment rights. If you are not currently a gun rights advocacy group member, I hope you join at least one soon! There are many organizations out there from national organizations to state organizations. I myself am a member of several and I am also a recruiter for the NRA. By being a member, you will stay aware of the various measures this administration, other politicians, and/or organizations take to limit our rights. Below are some links to the organizations I belong to.
- National Rifle Association (NRA)
- Gun Owners of America (GOA)
- Second Amendment Foundation (SAF)
- Connecticut Citizens Defense League (CCDL)
What are your thoughts on this new process?
